update on boys

Sam is using so many more words! It makes me so excited. His speech therapists have been wonderful!!!

I went to Rod Works today and Sam and I both fell in love with this horse, I think for different reasons. It is so heavy but he has been hauling it around the house, riding it, feeding it, reading it books. Apparently the horsie thinks milk is good.

And how is Jack you ask?

Still cute, chubby, and hilarious. And now loves hats.

I could be rich

Why didn't I think of this?!?

Oh wait, my first child is a clean freak and my second is a tornado.

I wish I were a cowgirl

Really. Seriously.
(excuse the yuckiness. i was sick.)

I was that girl who begged her parents for a horse and never got one.

We have some little cowboys though! Maybe there's hope for me!
(despite Jack's face, he loved it)

WHY?

Why the #$%@ is the emergency button at the bottom of the elevator? And why is it not red? It’s not like little boys never run in before their mommies and start pushing buttons. Where do you think they’ll start? The BOTTOM.

Then it will call the police. Seriously. I know.

Worst ikea trip ever.

Alpine Days

was fun. I love Alpine Days.

Happy Birthday Adam

It's Adam's birthday. Here's 100 things about my honey.

1. Adam did break dancing in high school and loved it. He’ll still occasionally spin on his head.

2. He loves saving money.

3. He loves his financial calculator. I have to take it away from him like a gameboy.

4. He is crazy about Rock Band. All instruments and singing, a lot of times he combines the singing with one of the instruments.

5. He is half Cuban.

6. He’s not really big into watching sports, but he’ll watch them with a group. But he loves playing them, and I mean everything from hockey to soccer to tennis.

7. He comes from a family of 4 boys followed by 2 girls.

8. The 4 boys were born in 4 years and 2 months. He loves being close to his brothers and wants all of our kids to have a close sibling in age (hence Jack and Sam being 19 months apart).

Adam is on the far left, then Dano, Brad and Rhett at the bottom.

9. Adam is obsessed with cereal. Absolutely obsessed. He is disciplined with them, he only eats healthy ones for breakfast and treat ones for dessert.

10. He is super picky about desserts. If he’s going to eat something for a treat, it better be super good. And then he’ll eat a ton of it.

11. He cuts his own hair. With a little help from me.

12. He hates shaving. One time we went to a BYU party and he hadn’t shaved, so they gave him a crappy razor and shaving cream and made him to shave it off. He was so ticked off that in protest he shaved in the girls bathroom.

13. His body is built exactly like his grandfather, Aldo.

14. He loves reading. Classics like the stuff we were all forced to read in high school are his favorite.

15. Adam is usually very calm and patient and it takes a lot to make him mad. I can only count the times he’s been mad on one hand. For almost 5 years that’s pretty good.

16. Being a dad is his favorite thing. He dotes over the boys and thinks every moment is fun (even when they are screaming, poopy, vomiting, etc.).

17. He always is the one who cleans up the yucky things the boys leave behind.

18. Whenever there is something unpleasant or scary that has to be done, he always says how much fun it will be to tell people the story.

19. Adam was going to be a Dr. and he scored in the 98.7 percentile on the MCAT. It didn’t work out but he still has all the same interests in the body, health and medicine.

20. Because of wanting to be a Dr., he always asks tons of questions whenever we go see one. When I am giving birth or we take the kids to their pediatric visits, he asks the Dr. about everything, and he wants it all in medical terms. Our pediatrician now knows how to talk to Adam and he is so great about giving Adam every detail. He’s the guy that loves cutting the cord, and when I am giving birth he is usually right in there with the Dr. asking questions and giving suggestions.

21. Then he wanted to go to graduate school. He scored in the top 95% of the GRE.

22. So he’s going to graduate school in Physiology and Developmental Biology. He starts his 2nd and last year this fall.

23. Then Adam wanted to be a professor.

24. Now he wants to be a lawyer. He takes the LSAT in September and he is going to blow it away!!! I just know it.

25. He likes to fix things. As in taking things apart, seeing what’s wrong, doing a little research and then fixing it himself.

26. He prefers deodorant to anti-presperant. He tells me to switch too, saying I’ll get Altizhmers. I say that’s fine because he’ll take care of me.

27. He LOVES going to concerts. He is that crazy kid wearing the headband to keep sweat out of his eyes, rocking so hard you wonder if there’s something wrong with him. He always comes home smelling so incredibly awful. Depending on the concert, he might smell like beer. And have some awful bruises on his torso.

28. He drives a little Civic and I know he will love it to pieces.

29. He is really good at cleaning toilets, tubs, and unloading the dishwasher.

30. He is extremely optimistic.

31. He can eat more corn in one setting than anyone I’ve ever seen.

Sam inherited this trait.

32. Even though he can eat like crazy, he doesn’t gain an ounce. If he does, he just cuts back for a few days and will lose a few pounds like it’s no big deal.

33. He loves to run, but his knee is injured so he can’t do it as often as he’d like to anymore.

34. He remembers people’s names from all sorts of situations, like “my 10th grade weight-lifting class” and stuns people when he walks up and says their full name and where they know each other from.

35. He always knows someone at every event we go to, even if it’s MY friend’s weddings.

36. When I get after him for something, he always says, “Oh but I love you so much!” and gives me a hug. He thinks that phrase makes everything better, I usually end up laughing so it does.

37. He claims he is more spiritual than me because he started crying in our sealing way before I did.

38. He is very emotional, and not afraid to talk about his emotions, which I love.

39. He’s also not afraid to show his love by giving big hugs. The Daytons are big, tight huggers. I love it.

40. He says, “I’m sorry” first 99.9% of the time.

41. He told me that he was a good liar on our first date. When Adam is nervous, he just keeps talking and talking without realizing what’s coming out of his mouth. At least I found that out on the first date.

42. We met on a blind date our mothers set up.

43. When we were meeting for that blind date, we’d never seen each other and our mothers had us wear certain clothes so we would recognize each other, me in a green sweater, him in a Spongebob shirt (we both like spongebob, don’t ask). He was wearing a coat over his shirt because he was kinda embarrassed. We met in the hall with the bowling alley at BYU. I walked down the hall and past him, and he looked up and wowed me with his eyelashes. I thought to myself, “If that’s him, WOW. He is beautiful!!!” I walked to the end of the hall and decided to call him. I turned around and walked toward him on my phone, and he was staring at me (totally checking me out I must add) when he reached for his phone in his pocket. When he said, “hello” he was still looking at me. I was about 7 feet in front of him, smiled and said, “hi.” He put away his phone sheepishly. I thought it was funny how he was checking out some girl walking down the hall when he was waiting to meet another one. He claims he knew it was me.

44. Adam fits into my extended family more than I do sometimes.

45. Adam loves chick flicks (don’t worry, he still love manly movies).

46. Pride and Prejudice is his favorite movie.

47. He has monster bowls to eat lots of cereal in them. I had to buy regular bowls for myself and the boys.

48. Adam’s nickname at my parent’s house is the “human garbage disposal.”

49. Adam wants babies more than I do.

50. He is incredibly patient.

51. He loves to have teaching jobs in church. It doesn’t scare him at all.

52. He just got called to teach the Stake Parenting class with me and I am really excited to teach together (I hated teaching alone).

53. He is addicted to NPR. When his ipod is on, it’s usually NPR, not music.

54. He loves trying new foods and new restaurants. The more exotic, the better.

55. He served his mission in Calgary Canada.

We went back and visited. Us in front of Lake Louise.

56. He learned Spanish from being in the immersion program at his elementary school.

57. Adam loves shopping for clothes and has a good sense of style. I know, I know you’re all thinking, “He is always in a t-shirt and shorts!” But he loves fashion.

58. He rarely takes naps.

59. He shares my dream of having a reception center someday.

60. He hates talking on the phone. Don’t be offended if he sounds like he is bothered that you called him, he is just that way.

61. He plays piano well and can make up solos on the spot.

62. He started BYU with 46 credits. Smart guy!

63. Adam is always happy.

64. He loves going to bed early.

65. He is the master folder of the clothes.

66. He and Sam share birthdays and half birthdays. Adam is August 5th, Sam is February 5th.

67. He proposed to me by singing a song on his guitar on my parents front porch where we had our first kiss. He was crying so hard I couldn’t even understand the words. It was really sweet.

68. If the boys are whining and having fits, he gets on the floor with them and starts to whine, cry, and flop around. They all end up laughing.

69. If asked what his favorite band is, he’d say, “All of them.” He loves music and finding new bands.

70. He has had LOTS of concussions. Too many for me to count.

71. He loves trying new dangerous things. I have to remind him he has children.

72. Costco is his favorite store. If Costco sells it, we buy it there.

73. He is registered as a Republican but doesn’t always vote that way.

74. He doesn’t like facebook.

75. He loves flip-flops.

76. He loves coupons and is shameless about using a TON.

77. His favorite cracker is Triscuits.

78. He kissed way too many girls in high school. It’s because he’s so good looking.

79. He loves the cold weather.

80. Sam relates so well to Adam because they are so analytical. Adam loves it, and they have a great relationship.

81. He changes more diapers than I do.

82. He LOVES being a dad.

83. He is crazy good at trivia games. In my family, we usually play everyone vs. Adam.

84. He does things like this.

85. DEATHLY afraid of spiders.

86. He hates onions. When he was little he used to say he hated them so much, that when his aunt would babysit, she wouldn’t allow him to say “onion.”

87. He had lots of sinus infections as a little kid.

88. Because of his sinus infections, he always had a stuffy nose and had a funny little nasally voice.

89. He was the peacemaker in his family growing up, he’d get in the middle of fights trying to get them to stop fighting, so he’d get beat up.

90. He has always been low-maintence. His mom showed up to primary one day to help his brother give the prayer, and Adam got up and gave a talk all by himself. She had no idea he was assigned a talk.

91. He is an In-n-Out fanatic. Has anyone else seen the construction for the In-n-Out on University Parkway in Orem!?!?!?! We’re excited!

92. He loves the Muppets.

93. And Charlie Brown.

94. His birthday cake is always funfetti. We call it waxball cake.

95. He loves Michael Jackson.

96. Sam was born at 12:31 AM, Adam hit a deer on the way home around 4 AM, and he still showed up to teach his Biology class at 8 AM. He is a little crazy and rather than asking for help just does it.

97. He has 2 looks, clean-cut mormon boy and mountain man. He just goes from one to the other.

98. His favorite concert ever was Josh Groban.

99. He always says that everything we do is an adventure.

100. The kids love him. Need I say more?

Happy Birthday babe! I love you!
