We are still alive!
Out here we are experiencing something we never have before, being the minority.
About a year ago Sam became very interested in skin color. He wanted to talk about it whenever he saw someone with darker skin. So we did.
Then 6 months ago he stopped. So I let it go too.
Today we went to the local splash pad. On the way home Sam told me he tried to make a friend but the boy didn't want to be his friend. I asked him why.
"He said he didn't want to play with me because I have white skin."
Hold the phone. Are we seriously having this problem?! I tried not to sound upset. I asked him what his response was.
"I said that I like everybody, brown and white skin. He said he still didn't want to play and walked off."
I was so incredibly proud of him. He didn't freak out, get mad, or come crying to me. He stood up for what he knew was right.
While we were walking home talking about this, Jack says real loud, "yeah, and I love everyone, all the skins!"

I'm sorry that happened! Like you said, at least he didn't get upset in any way. Hopefully you don't have many experiences like that.
